Abseiling

Abseiling sessions at Blue Rocks in Sannox provides an exciting opportunity for you to descend a 35 foot or 75 foot cliff in a safe and supportive environment.

Under the guidance of the centre's instructors, learn essential abseiling techniques, equipment use, and safety procedures before making controlled descents overlooking the Arran coastline.

Sessions help build confidence, teamwork, and personal resilience while enjoying the unique natural landscape of the north of the island.

Bushcraft

Discover the fundamentals of bushcraft through Fire Lighting, Shelter Building and Foraging.

We offer these popular activities as individual experiences or as part of a broader outdoor learning programme in locations across Arran, from woodland settings to coastal environments.

Participants gain practical skills, connect with nature, and learn how to make the most of the natural world around them.

Along the way, they build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through engaging, hands-on activities.

Canoeing

Two canoes gliding along the water with people in lifejackets steering with oars, with trees and hills in the background.

Enjoy canoeing all year round.

Working together is key, whether you are paddling with a partner or as part of a larger group.

Available on Lamlash Bay or in one of Arran's inland lochs, participants take part in games and activities that encourage teamwork, communication and problem solving while having fun on the water.

Cave Scramble

We deliver cave scrambling, also known as weaseling, as a fun and adventurous way to explore the natural environment.

Participants navigate caves, tunnels, rock crevices, and narrow passages by climbing, crawling, and squeezing through a variety of challenges.

The activity encourages teamwork, builds confidence, improves agility, and develops problem-solving skills.

We provide helmets and suitable protective clothing to support a safe and enjoyable experience.

Climbing

At the centre, we provide a safe and supportive environment where participants can develop their climbing skills and build confidence.

Participants learn essential climbing techniques, including movement skills, belaying, rope work and climbing safety.

Our automatic belay system allows more people to take part and gives groups more time on the climbing wall.

We encourage participants to challenge themselves, work as a team, solve problems and grow in confidence throughout each session.

Conservation

We place environmental conservation at the heart of the Arran Outdoor Education Centre experience.

Together with local partners, including the Brodick Country Park Ranger Service and Arran COAST, we create hands-on opportunities for groups to protect and enhance Arran’s unique natural environment.

As projects change with the seasons, participants take part in a variety of practical conservation activities.

They may plant native trees in Glen Rosa, carry out beach clean-ups along the coastline, or improve habitats by removing invasive species.

Through these activities, participants develop environmental awareness, strengthen teamwork skills, and build a lasting connection with Arran’s landscapes and wildlife.
