Kayaking

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing- absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.

Arran Outdoor Centre is situated on the beach in Lamlash bay. This gives a us a beautiful sheltered location for half day beginner sessions, a starting point for a journey around the Holy island for intermediate paddlers or the base for a range of exciting trips around Arran for the more adventurous.

A typical half day session will start with an introduction to the boat and safe handling techniques, a skill session on relevant strokes tailored to meet the needs of the group and a journey, if conditions are suitable a paddle across to the Holy Island is a common destination for us. With groups limited to six participants, individual coaching from our fully qualified instructors will be given and their local knowledge and experience will also increase your chances of seeing the exciting wildlife around Arran such as Seals, Porpoise and Basking Shark.

We have a range of kayak styles and sizes from multi-purpose kayaks for an introduction to kayaking to Sea Tourers which are ideal for exploration in stable boats along the coastline of Arran and sleek Sea Kayaks for faster journeys in responsive boats. Bespoke journeys are available all around the island, great trips such as Lochranza to Sannox in the remote coastline on the north east of the island or around the rugged south coast including a visit to the Isle of Pladda. For the more experienced a pre-dawn kayak trip to the Holy Island is an unforgettable experience. Or why not do them all as part of a five day circumnavigation of the Isle of Arran?

All these trips can be combined with our two day 3 star sea kayak award courses which run throughout the year. For advice, prices and availability of any kayak course please contact the centre.
