What exactly is abseiling?
Abseiling involves descending down a crag using climbing equipment, which we provide
here at the centre. It's lots of fun and suitable for people of all ages and fitness
levels. All you need to bring with you is a positive mind-set. We'll provide everything
you'll need to have a safe and fun filled time.
If you think abseiling sounds like a dangerous sport and not suitable for a beginner
then please think again, because we at Arran Outdoor can cater for complete novices
to experienced abseilers. Children and adults who have never abseiled start on small
crags or even learn some basics on the centre's climbing wall in a controlled environment,
and abseil only from a relatively small height.
While abseiling is not that difficult physically, it can be a huge mental challenge.
This is why for children and Adults, abseiling is a sport that can help build confidence,
skill levels and hand-eye coordination. You will work with a qualified instructor
to learn how to put on your harness and helmet, and be shown the technique of abseiling
and abseil down, so no previous training is required. They may, however, be able
to move on to a higher level once they have mastered the basics - both literally
All the Centre instructors are nationally qualified, so whether you want just a
taster session or a full day we can arrange it. Start small and finish big - Abseiling
is suitable for down-to-earth novices of all ages, family groups, couples or individuals.
We often use abseiling on team building projects and confidence building tasks.
We are able to offer a smaller abseil for those who have never tried Abseiling before
at a crag near Whiting Bay. You can then progress to a much bigger venue at the
Blue Rocks, Sannox (N.E. Arran)
So come on what are you waiting for!
